This magnificent stag greeted me at the end of a hike to Glengarrisdale on the north of Jura. Atop the hillock to the left of the bothy once stood
Aros Castle, the Jura base of the MacLeans of Lochbuie. Until it disappeared in the
1970s the famous MacLean’s skull rested on a rocky shelf to the right of the
bothy. For the story of a hike to Glengarrisdale to find where the skull once rested see chapter 7 of book 1.
